The History of the ANWA
The Augusta National Women’s Amateur heralded a change that was designed to grow the game of golf. Before the 2018 Masters Golf Tournament, Augusta National chairman Fred Ridley announced that the new event that would begin the following year, hoping to inspire young women to take up the game.
The inaugural Augusta National Women’s Amateur took place in 2019, but sadly, the 2020 event was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The event was restored in 2021.
The ANWA in 2024
The full field of 72 players is set to compete when the ANWA begins on April 3rd, and a winner will be crowned on Saturday, April 6th. The first and second rounds will take place at Champions Retreat Golf Club in Evans, Georgia. The final round will take place at the Augusta National Golf Club.
The field of players are coming to compete from 18 different countries and six continents and includes the top ranked amateur, Ingrid Lindblad.
